Hemp Seed as a Food Source

Hemp seed has been used as a source of food throughout Asia and parts of Russia for generations. It is one of the many uses that hemp can be put to, to the benefit of mankind. It is one of nature’s most versatile food sources - which happens to be perfectly balanced for human nutrition.

Of all the edible plants on Earth, (of which there are over 3 million), none can compare to the nutritional value hemp seed has for humans. Hemp seed contains a nutritional ratio that meets the needs of the human body perfectly - it is full of everything we need.

Sixty-five percent of the proteins contained within hemp seed are globulin edestin. This, when used in conjunction with the other nutrients within hemp seed, gives the body all the amino acid it need to produce vital proteins within the body – such as immunoglobulins (anti-bodies). It is such a powerful source that it can have your immune system firing on all pistons in no time. It even allows those suffering from nutrition blocking disease to maximize the amount they can absorb.

Hemp seed also contains healthy, essential fatty acids. They are used throughout the body to help maintain structural elements, such as your arteries, as well as the healthy maintenance of your skin, hair and eyes. There is no other plant in the world that has these healthy acids on the same scale as hemp seed.

Research into hemp seed made some very prominent scholars speak up for its uses and properties. R. Lee Hamilton, an accomplished medical researcher and biochemist famously said on the matter of hemp seed that we had, “The promise of super health and the possibility of feeding the world at our finger tips”; and that “The insane prohibitions against the most valuable plant on Earth, cannabis hemp, must yield to public demand” - and he is right, everyone who eats hemp seed regularly feels its benefit.

This leads on to R. Lee Roberts remark on solving world hunger. The rich amount of protein within hemp seed has the potential to help save over sixty percent of children born into the third world. This sixty percent is the estimated amount of children dying of protein starvation. You may think, “well great, it has the nutrients they need, but is there enough of it? How do we get it to them?” Well, as you may or may not be aware, not only is hemp seed one of the best food sources for humans, the plant it comes from is notoriously hardy and can be grown well pretty much anywhere – even in climates like Africa.

So why don't countries in need grow it? Because of ridiculous prohibition caused by fear-mongering and bogus science of the past, a few selfish politicians and businessmen cared about profit more than the well being of people. Hemp was always historically used as a food source; a reliable one that has seen civilizations throughout time and across the world pull through famine. For example, in the 19th century, Australians used hemp seed for protein and its leaves for roughage during two famines. It is only within the last one hundred years that it has fallen into disrepute in the west. It is still used throughout Asia as an everyday food.

Whilst this information may make it sound like the use of hemp seed in the western world has all but been wiped out, it has not. In many countries it can be grown and harvested under strict license and regulation - due to the negative image of cannabis. This means that some hemp seed foods are produced in the west, but the restrictions placed on who can grow it throttle its potential as well as the knowledge of its benefits.
