Drying of Cannabis

Drying your cannabis buds is the next stage to greatness after manicuring. It is, like most steps we talk about, important if you want to get the best tasting, highest quality weed you can get. It is part of what distinguishes it from a lot of rubbish you can buy on the street. Many cultivators who are only interested in making some quick cash do not bother with this process.

To do this correctly you need patience, we know it can be very tempting to just go ahead and smoke it, or try and rush this, but trust us, do this properly and you will not regret it – a cultivator can ruin an entire crop of marijuana when impatience gets the better of them.

To dry your marijuana follow these steps:

  • Hang the stems with your cannabis tops upside down in a dark place.
  • Make sure that the individual tops are not touching each other.
  • Make sure the room temperature is between 64 and 73 degrees Fahrenheit (18 and 23 degrees Celsius). Any higher than this and the bud will not dry evenly, negatively effecting the taste.
  • Maintain a humidity of 50%. Use a hygrometer and humidifier/dehumidifier to maintain this.
  • Make sure there's good air ventilation.

It will take 10-20 days for your weed to dry fully. Do not try and rush it by other means – we cannot stress this enough. Worst of all, never put marijuana buds in the microwave or above a heater for example. Everything you do to try and speed up this natural process is going to negatively impact the final taste and quality of your weed. If you dry cannabis too quickly it will result in just as bad of an experience when used as if you did not bother drying it at all.

You know that your cannabis buds are properly dry when you can break through the stems easily. If you bend a stem it should snap immediately, if it flexes or resists then it needs longer.

Now that your cannabis is dry we would strongly recommend curing it; if you can do this correctly it will take your marijuana to another level entirely. We know it is hard to wait, and that each step keeps you away from your fruits of your labor, but trust us, it is most definitely worth it.

Warning: Freshly cut marijuana buds are extremely smelly. You seriously need odor control when drying your weed. Because of this a lot of growers use their growroom for drying. A growroom is a perfect place for drying; only too bad you can't start right away with a new grow.
